About TAP

TAP is a statewide network of people dedicated to cultivating better places in Tasmania, both for today and tomorrow.

"Placemaking is about bringing different people and disciplines together to create positive changes in a place or area. This also includes improving existing spaces to make them more comfortable, accessible, active and attractive."

- Dean Cracknell, TAP Co-Founder

Creating Better Places

We connect passionate individuals, organizations, and communities across Tasmania to create places that are not just liveable, but truly lovable.

Through collaboration, education, and action, we're building a Tasmania where every community has the knowledge and support to shape their own places.

Our Principles

For TAP, our principles are aligned with our understanding of good places and what we advocate for:

Diversity

Places with a diversity of people, with different backgrounds, cultures, language and abilities

Identity

Places that have a mix of heritage and contemporary architecture, side by side, place response with a strong sense of local identity

Community

Places where people can be part of a community, creating a sense of identity through events and community led services, and being together

Accessibility

Places that are walkable, bike friendly, public transport accessible, within close proximity to neighbourhood and town centres, providing ease of movement and access for all

Economic Life

Places that have a variety of small businesses, shops and organisations all contributing to the place economy's viability and vibrancy

Natural Elements

Places that have connections to nature via trees, greenery, parks and views to the wider landscape

Our Goals

Democratisation of Knowledge

TAP will be a platform to share, teach and document placemaking knowledge via our network of professionals and practitioners, and to the broader Tasmanian Community.

Advocacy & Expertise

TAP will provide independent expert placemaking advice, guided by our principles of cultivating liveable and loveable places, to communities and relevant organisations.

Community Empowerment

TAP will support local communities participating and engaging in decision making on their local places, granting them with a greater ability to lobby and advocate for change.

Leading Change

TAP will shift population confidence and appetite for change, enabling a more thoughtful approach to placemaking with a people-centred and collaborative design approach with community.
